Terms of service

Last updated: October 19, 2026

Chronarium is sold by Polymath Studios LLC (“we”, “us”, “our”). These terms cover the Chronarium Mac app and the website chronarium.app. Installing or using Chronarium means you agree to these terms.

1. Your licence to use Chronarium

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use Chronarium on the Macs you personally use.

Chronarium is licensed to you, not sold. We keep all rights in the software.

You may not:

  • Share or publish your licence key, or sell or transfer it.
  • Remove, get around or tamper with the trial or the licence check.
  • Resell, sublicense or redistribute Chronarium.

2. The free trial

The free trial lasts 4 weeks and includes every feature. It needs an email address. No card is required.

The trial length is fixed when the trial starts and is written into your trial key. If we change the trial length later, a trial that has already started keeps its original length.

If you start a trial while the app cannot reach our server, the trial runs on the app’s built-in length (4 weeks in this version) until the app reaches the server. From then on, the server’s length applies, counted from your original start day.

There is one trial per person. Starting again with the same email address continues the same trial.

When the trial ends, Chronarium becomes read-only. Nothing is deleted.

Read-only means:

  • You can open, view, search, export and delete timelines.
  • You cannot create, edit, duplicate, import or rename timelines until you have a licence.
  • A Chronarium project file can still be opened to read. Nothing is written to it.

The same read-only rules apply after a yearly licence ends.

3. Plans and payment

There are two plans:

  • Yearly: $39 per year. A subscription billed once a year. It auto-renews at the end of each year until you cancel.
  • Lifetime: $79. One payment. It never expires and includes updates to Chronarium for Mac.

Prices are in US dollars. They are shown on the pricing page and confirmed at checkout. Payments are processed by Stripe. If any tax applies, Stripe’s checkout shows it before you pay.

Cancelling a yearly subscription

In the app, click “Your plan” at the far right of the bottom bar, then open “Manage billing”. This takes you to Stripe’s billing page. Sign in with a code Stripe emails you, then cancel.

Or email support@chronarium.app from the address you used to buy, and we will cancel it for you.

You keep full use until the end of the paid year. Then Chronarium becomes read-only, as after a trial.

Failed payments

If a renewal payment fails, Stripe retries it for a while. You can update your card via “Manage billing”, which you reach by clicking “Your plan” at the far right of the bottom bar.

If the payment is still uncollected, the subscription ends. Chronarium becomes read-only when the current licence ends.

Switching from yearly to lifetime

If you have an active yearly subscription, click “Your plan” at the far right of the bottom bar in the app, then choose “Switch to lifetime”.

The price is the full $79. There is no credit for the unused part of the paid year, and no proration. Paying cancels your yearly renewal at once.

4. Refunds

  • Lifetime: full refund if you ask within 30 days of purchase.
  • Yearly: full refund if you ask within 30 days of any yearly payment, renewals included.
  • After 30 days, payments are not refundable, except where the law requires it.

To ask for a refund, email support@chronarium.app from the address you used to buy.

A refund ends the licence that payment bought, and you agree to stop using that key. The app works offline, so it cannot switch a key off itself. Stopping is up to you. A refunded yearly subscription is cancelled, so its key is not renewed. Your timelines remain yours.

5. Your data

Your timelines are stored on your Mac, not by us. You own what you create. We claim no rights to it.

Backups of your Mac and your files are your responsibility.

To see what we collect, read the Privacy policy.

6. Updates and changes

The app checks for and downloads updates automatically. An update installs when you choose “Restart to update” or when you quit the app.

We may fix problems, add features, and change or retire features. We will never remove the ability to export timelines.

7. Disclaimers

Chronarium is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we give no warranties of any kind. We do not promise error-free or uninterrupted use. You use Chronarium at your own risk.

8. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for lost data or lost profits. Our total liability is capped at the greater of $100 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

9. Ending these terms

You may stop using Chronarium at any time. We may end a licence for a breach of these terms, for example if you publicly share your licence key. A licence ended for a breach is not refunded.

10. Disputes and law

If there is a problem, email us first. We will try to resolve it.

These terms are governed by the law of the State of Maryland, USA. To the extent the law allows, disputes are handled individually, not in a class action.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will change the date at the top of this page and email the people on our email list. If you keep using Chronarium after a change, you accept the new terms.
